Each place has a value of 10 times the place to its right. A number in standard form is separated into groups of three digits using commas. Each of these groups is called a period.The digit 5 is in the tens place, and the digit 6 is in the ones place. As you see above, you can tell a digit's value by looking at its position. Look at the number of digits to the right of the digit, or write your number into a place-value chart, with the last digit in the ones column.
