CTET SYLLABUS
According to Clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act , one of the essential qualifications to gain eligibility to serve as a teacher(grade 1-8) in any of the schools is that he/she should pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which is conducted by the appropriate state /central Government in accordance with the guidelines of NCTE, Section 23.

Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi is responsible for conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET).
Background And Rationale
The rationale behind making TET as minimum qualification for a person to be eligible to be appointed as a teacher are as follows:
To increase the national standards and benchmark of teacher quality
To induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to improve their performance standards;
To send a positive signal to all stakeholders that the Government lays special emphasis on quality of teachers
What is the validity period of CTET certificate?
The CTET qualifying certificate has a validity period of 7 years starting from the date of declaration of its results.
How many times a person can attempt CTET examination?
There is no rule or restriction about maximum number of times a person can take CTET .
CTET can also be taken again by person who has qualified CTET if he/she wishes to improve the previous score.
Opportunities after qualifying CTET
Most of the CBSE schools are looking for CTET qualified teachers desperately because this is the mandate from the Government that teachers appointed after March 2012 in any CBSE school have to be CTET qualified. There are over 17000 CBSE affiliated schools in the country and mostly all the schools have high attrition every year (25-30% teachers leave the workforce or shift to a new location or teach in a different school).
There are not more than 5000 vacancies in 1300 KVs, 961 NV and over 63 Tibetan Schools every year. CTET is written by 10 lac people while online 10% (1 lac) people qualify. The competition for Govt. The job is therefore very tough. (1,00,000 candidates for 5000 posts) especially considering CTET is just one of the criteria.

CTET exam was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) twice in a year. However, as per media reports, the teacher eligibility test will now be conducted only once a year.
